Description

Beggars in Pain is a Dungeons and Dragons campaign partly inspired by Nancy Kress's Beggars in Spain. Aside from certain dynamic features from that novel, the world, describe further below, forms a typical fantasy setting. In addition to the normal challanges of such a setting, the characters found themselves entangled in a serious social and political struggle, filled with mystery and misdirection. Soon a extensive moral dilemma will add itself to the problems with which they are expected to deal.

World Information

The full world is huge and extremely varied, in inhabitants, cultures, and their abilities and languages. The specifics of all these will never be entirely worked out, and they are not particularly important to the current PCs, who have yet to leave the pocket of human-dominated in which they started. Below will be some of what these characters have discovered about the world around them and its history.

The other interesting point about this world is its creation: the form of the land, its waterways and oceans, and soon its weather patterns and climates, are computer generated (with the help of the computer's programmer, the DM).

Campaign Rules

The rules used in this game are somewhat modified from the standard 3rd edition D&D rules in an attempt to achieve more realism through slightly more complicated mechanics. The current version of these modifications is available as a
PDF or DVI file.
